What we started with is greater than anything we could imitate or put in it's place. This is why it's not a matter of reprogramming, but deprogramming. You must be ready and open to anything that comes your way. Have no predetermined course, follow the river that leads to the ocean. If a house were not empty inside it would not be of useful to the man who seeks shelter. What is considered Empty is what is considered of use. Do you think "filling" yourself up with what you believe about the world will allow you to be useful? Empty yourself of your world so that you may receive the Universe. There will be many things you learn about yourself when you become a Martial Artist. Do you have the internal and external strength needed to be The Martial Artist? Like Han from Enter The Dragon said "It is strength that makes all other values possible. Nothing survives without it." Learn from your mistakes and face your fears and always remember to keep an open mind.
The "Kung" In Kung Fu

Kung Fu Shoes When most people hear the word Kung Fu they think it is a martial art. Kung Fu is a broad term for Chinese martial arts and Chinese boxing styles. Kung essentially means highly concentrated effort. So one can achieve Kung in painting, music, or any other are one practices. Kung is practiced in two different ways known as internal and external. In ancient practices they had certain techniques they would practice in order to raise their attributes. These are just a few Kung techniques and if you decide to practice it is suggested that one have good common sense.

Speed Running Kung
Speed running Kung is a way of making your body faster and lighter. It is still practiced today by people that don't even study Kung Fu. The practice is started by first attaching ankle weights(you can get these any sporting goods store). A 150 lb person should start with about 4lbs. From there you run in an open field or wherever you are free to run until you are winded. Be careful in doing this though, you should not go beyond your threshold. Increase your distance every day by a little bit. Raise the weight every 2 weeks until you reach 10% or your body weight. If you weighed 200lbs it would be 20 lbs. This of course is very difficult but over time it becomes very easy even with the weights on.The next stage would be to run up and down hillsides to push it a step further.

Leaping Kung
Leaping Kung is very useful to almost any martial artist and can even be useful for someone like a basketball player or anyone looking to jump high. It is said that with practicing this Kung one can jump over a car or a 15 foot gap once mastered. First get a shovel and dig a hole 2 feet deep and 3 feet wide. Using the same weights from your Speed Running Kung jump in and out of the hole until you exhausted. Every 2 weeks increase the weight and dig the hole one inch deeper. Eventually when the hole is 7 feet deep you will be able to literally jump over most people!

Iron Forearm Kung
This is another Kung technique that is still practice by many students. First you start by striking the inside and outside of your forearms against a pole, tree, heavy bag, post, or something similar. Each session should be 15 minutes and should be done twice a day. Gradually start hitting it harder once tolerance is built. It is advised not to use a post that supports your house because you might break it if you become efficient enough. Students would then move on to more coarse trees and eventually rocks.

Be very careful if you choose to practice these techniques, be smart and don't do anything illogical. These of course are only a few techniques. The book Kung Fu-History, Philosophy, and Technique has many more Kung Fu techniques as well as a detailed history of Martial Arts as a whole.

Breathing Martial Arts

Breathing Martial Arts Breathing Martial Arts is an expression that means to be one with Martial Arts and to incorporate the teachings and philosophies into your daily life. People think they are practicing Martial Arts when they are in the ring or when they are in class being taught by a Master. Regardless of what any Sensei, Instructor, or Teacher tells you, always remember life is the greatest Master. When you are breathing Martial Arts there is no moment you are not practicing. Rhythm and Timing are in all things not just Martial Arts. Much can be learned from studying the the the rhythm, timing, and relationships of those around you.

When It is said that every moment becomes practice this does not mean going around always practicing your kicks and punches. This means training your mind to see how everything is related and how seemingly unrelated things can enhance your ability and senses as a Martial Artist. In my own personal opinion, the Student who knows himself need never take a Martial Arts class to become a Master. Many Zen Masters were known to be amazing Martial Artists without ever having had a Master except the Great Teacher Of Life. What they understood was there place in the universe and they came to understand there true selves and not just the image that most people think they are. While what I'm saying will be criticized by students of some Martial Arts class I urge you to look deeper into things. Understand that all these styles started with an individual who decided to develop there own fighting techniques. They may have had help but ultimately they took what they knew and changed it to make it more suitable for themselves. It's not the moves that presented truth but rather the quest to find out what works best for the individual that produced these styles. There are only so many ways you can throw a punch and even if 2 people throw the seemingly same punch, it will still be different for every individual.
